The Essence of Embryos

I just attended a seminar conducted by Jaap van der Waal in Charlottesville, Virginia.  He calls his presentation “The Embryo in Us.”  He teaches Embryological Anatomy and his focus is to talk about Spirit incarnating in our physical bodies.  He says “We are meant to be here!” In fact, according to Jaap, we are still embryos, still evolving, taking shape as we move through life.

Our inner embryo continues to develop. It is inhabited by our Spirits. From his website, Jaap says an embryo is “more than just ‘a matter of genes, cells, tissues, and hormones.’” We are each “a being of spirit (mind) AND body. On the basis of regular scientific embryology, . . .  we are not the product of our body and our cells but that in reverse we (also) are a spiritual being giving shape to its body.”

Indeed, says Jaap, quoting Rumi, the 13th-century philosopher, and poet:

The body developed
out of us,
not we from it.
We are bees,
and our body is a honeycomb.
We made the body,
cell by cell we made it.

It’s something to think about.  As a spiritual person myself, I like this notion. From the perspective of anatomy, Jaap makes a good case for our I AM-ness being housed in a body. We have been told for eons “I Am That I Am.” Now science is supporting that contention!
